Special Chair Talk 3.7 UA Cares
Colleagues,
I'm forwarding a message to you from the coordinator of the UA Cares program -- this is a good time to consider the needs of the various communities we are a part of -- the attached message provides some very helpful information in this regard.

Dear Colleague,
The University of Arizona is currently in the UACares campaign. UA Cares is The University of Arizona's annual workplace giving campaign, providing UA employees with the opportunity to support UA services and programs and the broader community.
UA Cares was created in 2002 as a "combined campaign" in which employees may give to any University programs and services through the UA Foundation or to any non-profit organizations or Community Impact Areas through the
United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona.
I am writing to each of you today to ask that you take a moment and assess if you can contribute to the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona. The mission of the United Way is to build a better community by uniting people, ideas and resources.
As a member of the Board of Directors, as well as the chairwoman of Women United, I have witnessed and experienced first-hand the impact of the work of United Way in our community including:
- Over 14,000 youth participated in quality before and after school programs.
- 1,600 children attended early education programs to promote healthy habits, good nutrition, physical activity and health insurance coverage.
- The creation of Operations United, which helps to support veterans so that they avoid homelessness
- Over 16,000 low income working families received free tax preparation at VITA sites to receive tax credits and refunds to account for $25.7 Million.
- Nearly 5,000 people received educational financial coaching to help them develop and achieve their financial goals.
- Over 9,000 seniors were able to stay at home because of help and support from quality programs.
- Many additional programs: see http://www.unitedwaytucson.org/
Giving to the United Way:
- Multiplies the impact of your donation by 5. Every $1 given to the United Way’s general fund equates to over $5 in community impact.
- Ensures that your donation will be sent to high performing non-profits in Southern Arizona. The United Way measures the impact of the non-profits and ensures that the funds they receive are being used in the manner intended.
- Supports thousands of non-profits, partnerships, and initiatives that support education, financial stability, and a healthier community.
- Is an exceptionally well-managed and efficient way to support your community, with management and fundraising costs held about 10% of the budget.
Please help me in creating a better community by donating your philanthropic dollar to the United Way of Tucson and Southern Arizona by going to http://www.uacares.arizona.edu/content/ways-give or http://www.unitedwaytucson.org.
Thank You,
Catherine Merrill
