Chair Talk 3.19 – The Presidential Search

As most of you no doubt know, the search is down to two candidates, whose identity is known: Sethuraman (Panch) Panchanathan and Robert Clayton Robbins.  Based on my interactions with them during the process I believe we have a choice between two excellent alternatives, each of whom could bring something new and exciting to the UA.

The Regents will be making the final decision early next week.  I am hereby issuing a call to all of you to look closely at the candidates, do your due diligence, and let me know what you think about each of them.  I will gather what input I receive and summarize it for the Regents, who I hope will take it into account as they proceed.  I will have to finish my task by Sunday night, Tucson time, so please act with some haste in reviewing these candidates.  At this point it is entirely appropriate for you to consult with your network of colleagues across the country and around the world to get a well-rounded picture of each candidate, and what their presidency might mean for the UA.

I remain resolutely optimistic about the outcome, all the more so because we have this opportunity to carefully consider two individuals with quite different profiles.  Let’s all do our homework!

You should send your thoughts to me at either my UA address (nadel@u.arizona.edu), or my non-UA account, using your own non-UA account, if you prefer (nadellynn@gmail.com).
