SUBJECT:    Call for Nominations for Regents’ Professorships

The 2016-2017 Call for Nominations of candidates for Regents' Professor is now open.  The deadline for the receipt of nominations for Regents’ Professor is Noon, Friday, November 4, 2016.

The designation of Regents' Professor is the highest of faculty ranks, and is reserved for full professors with exceptional achievements that have brought them national or international recognition.  Regents' Professors are expected to exemplify the highest objectives and standards of the University through their scholarship, research or creative activities, and teaching.  These appointments, approved by the Arizona Board of Regents, are limited to three percent (3%) of the tenured and tenure-track faculty members, and carry a modest salary increase.  More information regarding honored faculty positions can be found on the Arizona Board of Regents website:

Please submit nominations electronically.   The University of Arizona Nomination Process, Criteria and Instructions are available at http://provost.arizona.edu/awards.htm.

If you are the chair of a nominating group whose nominee is in the second or third year of consideration, please update and resubmit the dossier of your candidate online in accordance with the updated criteria and guidelines.

Please note that recent procedural changes have reduced the maximum number of letters supporting a candidate’s nomination to eight (8), while keeping the minimum at six (6).

As you contemplate worthy candidates to nominate, I would like to remind you to give particular consideration to qualified women and minority candidates and to consider the full range of academic disciplines. The Regents’ Professor designation is an important way for the University and the state to celebrate faculty achievement, and I thank you for your contributions to this process.
