The University of Arizona

Signing the Shared Governance Agreement, October 2, 2006: University of Arizona President, Dr. Robert N. Shelton and Chair of the Faculty/University Distinguished Professor, Dr. Wanda H. Howell

The University of Arizona enjoys and values a culture of Shared Governance that is unique among many of our peer institutions. The Chair of SPBAC, Dr. J.C.Mutchler, and the Chair of the Faculty both serve on the President's Cabinet  along with the Provost and other vice-presidents, vice-provosts, and deans' representatives. Our Shared Governance Memorandum of Understanding defines the two over-arching shared  governance bodies as the Faculty Senate and the Strategic Planning and Budget Advisory Committee (SPBAC). Collective intelligence and mutual responsibility for decision-making enables the University to make better decisions, thus creating a stronger institution that can achieve its goals.
